Definitely the ROLEX Explorer II is a typical example for the special look of the 70's and moreover was created as a true working-tool for cave explorers. For this reason and due to a low demand
of this model the production ceased in 1985. The fact, that this model is undoubtfully rare and the charismatic Steve Mc.Queen chose it as one of his favourite watches, causes today in a strong
demand for this timepiece from Geneva. It should also be noted, that Explorer I and Explorer II have never been produced in gold.

The Rolex Explorer II is amongst today collectors watches the one with the most recent history and technically close related with the GMT-Master. Both models have an additional arrow-shaped-hand
which takes 24 hours for one full rotation.
Whilst the GMT-Master has a bidirectional bezel to allow the reading of two time zones at a glance, is the bezel of the Explorer II fixed; the Geneva engineers wanted to create with this
timepiece an instrument which allows to see on the first sight if it is for example 2AM or 2PM. This was especially very useful for cave explorers not to loose far from daylight the sense for the
The first Explorer II appears on the scene in 1971; these early models have one significant difference towards all successors of this reference. The seconds hand does not bear the Rolex typical
luminous dot; among connoisseurs these watches are nicknamed "straight hand". In 1972 this special seconds hand is replaced against the well known with the typical dot. Apart from that remains
the reference 1655, up to few slight dial and bezel modifications, unchanged. Also the movement, caliber 1575GMT, was used without any modification during the whole production period.
Our Rolex, reference 1655/0 is a first series model dating back to 1971 with the correct so called "Fat Font" bezel. She is a really stunning representative for this charismatic reference in a
beautiful original condition. Just verified and serviced through Rolex Geneva she is a
"must have" for each collector.
