In 1953 Rolex presented it's famous Submariner. The characteristics of the first reference 6200 were - easy to use and easy to read the time. The main target was to manufacture a timepiece which
should serve divers under water, simply a truly functional tool; and this goal had been achieved. Of course this model went through a steady evolution and changed continuously. As early
models for example do not have the later added crown guards to protect the winding crown against shocks or damages, also the cases became more solid over the years. The same applied to the
movements. Only one thing has never been considered until 1966; to equip a Submariner with a date display. Reference 1680 was the first of it's kind bearing a date display, followed by its
successor, reference 16800 in 1981.
Our Rolex Submariner Date, reference 16800 dates back to ca. 1983 and is equipped with a stainless steel Oyster bracelet. She presents overall in an excellent original condition and has of course
been serviced and guaranteed by Rolex Geneva – the last evolution, amongst collectors the so called "transitional model" as it still retains the classy vintage look of reference 1680 - apart from
its sapphire crystal and the revolutionary movement with quickset date.
