From the beginning the characteristics of a Submariner were an easy and simple use and a good readability. The main target was to create a timepiece which should serve divers under water, simply
a truly functional tool; and this goal had been achieved. Of course this model went through a steady evolution and changed continuously. As early examples do not have the crown guards to protect
the winding crown against shocks or damages, also the cases became more solid over the years. The same applied to the movements. Only one thing has never been considered until 1966; to equip a
Submariner with a date display. The reference 1680 is the first of it's kind, moreover the first Submariner model manufactured not only in stainless steel, but also in 18-karat gold.
Our Submariner, reference 1680/8, dating back to 1976 is without any doubt one of the rarest variations. The dial shows a nice and natural color change, so called "Tropical", moreover is the full
writing not white or creamy but olive. This stunning timepiece has been fully serviced and guaranteed by Rolex Geneva - for collectors absolutely extraordinary and unrepeatable.
