Until today the most sought after models of the reference 1680 were the so called "RED SUBS" with the submariner writing on the dial in red, and of course variations such as the "TROPICAL DIALS".
These show sometimes a discoloration from black into a gentle and warm brown.
This illustrated member of the 1680 family is an extremely rare example; according to our knowledge the only one date to exist and never been offered for sale before.
Obviously the dial of the present example has been manufactured in 1973 on special customers demand. Not only the indexes, but also all the other printings on this dial have been applied with the
same luminous material. Therefore not only the indexes, as usual, but also the name ROLEX, the designation OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE, the writing SUBMARINER, the depth indication etc. show the same
yellowish discoloration and nice aging. If one imagines that all printings of her have shown nice glow during the 70's nights - this must have been a dramatic, thrilling and unique look - it is
An absolutely unique opportunity for every enthusiast to acquire a piece of Rolex history. Freshly serviced and verified by Rolex Geneva this icon is undoubtfully irrepeatable.
